Orange Grove

It was suppose to rain all day, but once again the weatherman was wrong. There may have been a sprinkle or two but not enough to bother anyone. If there was a weather problem is was that it was too warm – in January. The temperature was near 70 and the controls were all uphill, but where else could the controls be at Orange Grove. I didn’t hear any complaints about lack of exercise.

We had a large group of high school ROTC cadets from Prince Georges County that ran courses all day long. Their energy level was impressive.

I was lucky to have a core team of experienced volunteers. Mike Newman, John Landers and Jody Landers are meet directors themselves. Marcus Dixon has given his time to a number of meets in the past. Kirsten Emigholz is experienced at handling registration.. And Valerie Meyers once again set up and ran the e-punch which makes everything run so much smoother. All I had to do was show up with the equipment.

At the end people were tired and we were low on water but the controls had to be picked up. So Joe Garman, Ted Good, Jon Torrance, Sam Listwak and Jody Landers trudged back up those hills to do the deed. Thanks to all.

We would like to welcome Doug and Jackie Palmer of Vienna, Va. and their two children Matt and Sara to the club.

And a final thanks to Tom Delaney for designing the courses. Tom was somewhat injured so he had the help of Jan Merka, Greg Lennon and Ted Good to set the courses.
