McKeldin

We had a beautiful warm day to start the orienteering season which brought out a good crowd of people. The McKeldin Area of Patapsco State Park does not lack for hilly terrain so everyone got a good workout. Every one seemed to have a good time on the courses set by John Blaisdell.

We had a large group of high school ROTC cadets from Prince Georges County that ran courses all day long. Their energy level was impressive.

I was lucky to have a core team of experienced volunteers. Mike Newman and Jody Landers are meet directors themselves and Kirsten Emigholz is now an old pro at registration. I would also like to thank Gene Gillespie for help with the set up. We had a couple ad hoc training sessions all handed by Ted Good. And of course the incomparable Valerie Meyers once again sat up and ran the e-punch which makes everything run so much smoother. Once again all I had to do was show up with the equipment.

At the end of an event when everyone is hot and tired it is good that we have people who are willing to attack the hills one more time to retrieve the controls. At McKeldin it was Ted Good, David Onkst, Jan Merka, Vic Culp and Jody Landers who trudged back up those hills to do the deed. Thanks to all.
