2007 Patuxent Panther Orienteering Meet

A beautiful day on Saturday attracted a record crowd of JROTC cadets for the 2007 Patuxent Panther Orienteering Meet at Kings Landing Park in Huntingtown, Maryland. 17 Navy and Army JROTC units brought 273 cadets to compete in our 9th annual meet. That is a record breaking crowd! I would like to thank all the units and their cadets for their excellent behaivior and for their support of our concession stand which helps support our future activities. Three cell phones were lost in the woods, but were all found by other cadets and returned to their rightful owners. That is a great display of cadet honesty and integrity. Remember: Honor, Courage, Commitment!
A special thanks to Mr. Dave Linthicum who designed and set the courses, and Mr. Mike Brooks from the Quantico Orienteering Club for his expert training and assistance provided during the meet. And to Area 5 Manager CDR Hayes who after running the white course and sprinting to the finish in front of 250 cheering cadets in formation, and talking with a former two time North American Orienteering Champion, has a new appreciation for the great sport of orienteering! The wonderful parents of Patuxent cadets did a fantastic job running the concession stand, and a BZ to the Patuxent cadets for running a very smooth and professional event.
The final results of the meet are attached in an Excel spreadsheet. Each event is tabbed across the bottom of the spreadsheet. Just click on the tab to see that event results.
Despite a gender mix-up on the brown course, the overall event champion stands as announced at the Meet.
Overall meet champion: Huntingtown with 88 points
1st Rumnner up: Annapolis with 76 points
2nd Runner up: Osbourn Park with 44 points
The following awards will be mailed to the respective units:
1st place Score O Team trophy to Granby
2nd place Male Brown medal to Henning from Huntingtown (who was mis-classified in the original standings)
If you are interested in doing more orienteering, I highly recommend attending meets put on by the Quantico Orienteering Club. They put on about two meets a month throughout Maryland and Northern Virginia. Their schedule of events can be found at:
