The 10th Annual Susquehanna Stumble at Little Bennett park, MD saw over 100 participants on both Stumble and the 4 recreational courses. The extreme weather contributed so the race was true to its name: Many runners literally stumbled to the finish due to the unseasonally hot air temperature. Normal daily maximum temperature on October 7 in the area is 71 F while this time it reached record high of 91F. Interestingly, exactly one year ago on October 7, 2006, the temperature reached a daily record low maximum of 56F.
However, the course setter Sam Listwak tirelessly supplied water stations and even created an extra station so the runner could stay hydrated. He prepared interesting and demanding courses that probed runners physical and navigational reserves.
The meet was organized together with the SVO club that prepared the Stumble (directed by Brad Whitmore) while the recreational courses were organized by QOC. Many thanks go to all volunteers that helped: Sam Listwak prepared courses, Dagmar Merkova prepared the streamer course, Valerie Meyer took care of e-punching, Melissa Wirzburger directed start and finish on recreational courses, Mark and Patti Mace helped with meet set up and at the start/finish, Nadim Ahmed, David Onkst, Bill Vienna, and Eddie Bergeron participated in control pick-up.
Let me also welcome new QOC members Andrius Masedunskas and Elaine Wooton with family.
