The woods were white in all senses of the word, with Saturday’s storm having dropped several inches of snow, but the sun (and lack of wind) made for a surprisingly warm-feeling 32 degree day and a great day to be out in classic QOC terrain. Nadim’s 3 courses drew praise, and the National Park Service ranger assigned to monitor our activity also had no complaints, although she did note that “the trails were getting muddy”. So were some of the 127 orienteers!
In advanced course competitive results, last year at Great Falls Jon Torrance was 1 second faster than 2nd place finisher Eddie Bergeron … and this year, over the 8.6 km course, the same 1-2 placement was seen, and again, the difference was slight - less than one minute. We fully expect Eddie to be training even harder over the next year.
Many folks helped the meet run smoothly, with Valerie Meyer setting up epunching as well as working with David Onkst to put out controls. The registration table was manned by Don Fish, Suzanne Izzo, and Michele Svoboda, set up by a crew including Don along with John and Jody Landers. Maps were handed out primarily by Max Lennon, and epunching help included Heidi Onkst. Controls were quickly gathered up by Dan Quinn, Victor Lin, Sam Listwak and Mihai Sirbu.
