QOC's map is 5 colors, 1:10,000 with 15 ft. contour last updated by George Kuntsevitch in March and April 2000. Base map was the club old maps field checked between 1979 to 1999.
Vegetation: The green on the map is there. There are also other greener areas that are not on the map. All the advanced courses go through one or more greener areas but by and large avoid the worst of it. Much of the green contains thorny areas but these are avoidable. The bigger concern is the isolated thorns. Keep a sharp eye out for them. I had no problems moving at a comfortable pace througth the woods.
Trails: The indistinct trails are hard to see. The other trails are fine.
Ditches: Some of the small ditches aren't there so don't spend a lot of time looking for them unless there is suppose to be a control there :)
From the National Capital Beltway, I-95/495, exit 23, go south on Keniworth Ave to first street. Turn left onto Greenbelt Road thru NASA Goddard, then right into the park. Follow the red and white signs.
From the Baltimore Washington Beltway, take Greenbelt Road 193 West (away from Nasa Goddard). Go under the Capital Beltway. Park exntrance is on the left at the stoplight.
Once in the park follow signs to campground. Go past Park Police Station and Park HQ. At the stop sign turn right. Turn left into Sweetgum Picnic area. Bathrooms with running water are available.
