There's a new map and permanent orienteering course available at Camp Hashawha & Bear Branch Nature Center which are co-located just north of Westminster in the center of Carroll Co., MD, NW of Baltimore. This county park is open dawn to dusk. Posts 1-7, then 13-14-17 are a two mile route. With a 50 foot(!) contour interval, the area is steeper than it looks on the map, but is really just rolling. The posts are all white or yellow course difficulty, unless you deliberately take some "creative" routes! There may be color copies of the map at the Bear Branch Nature Center (410)-848-2517, which is open Wed. to Sat. 10 to 5, Sunday 12 to 5.

From near the center of Westminster on the Rt. 140 highway, exit north on Maryland Rt. 97 for 3 miles. Turn right on John Owings Rd. After a mile, turn left at the Hashawa-Bear Branch entrance sign. In a few hundred yards, turn right at the Bear Branch Nature Center sign to the parking (bottom right corner of the map.)
